Medical Marijuana Reciprocity for Old Brooklyn Patients
An Ohio medical marijuana registration does not automatically authorize an Old Brooklyn patient to purchase or possess cannabis in another state. Ohio's current reciprocity statute directs the Division of Cannabis Control to seek agreements only when another state's eligibility requirements are substantially comparable and that state also recognizes Ohio patient or caregiver registrations.
What does medical marijuana reciprocity mean?
Reciprocity refers to one jurisdiction recognizing some form of medical cannabis authorization issued by another jurisdiction.
The rules vary significantly. A destination state may require temporary registration, proof of an active home-state medical cannabis card, an application fee, or satisfaction of its own qualifying-condition requirements.
Which states currently offer visiting-patient programs?
Some states operate government-administered programs for qualifying visitors:
- Arkansas: Visiting patients may apply for an approval valid for 90 days. The application fee is $50 and non-refundable. Patients can review the Arkansas Department of Health visiting-patient requirements.
- Hawaii: Qualifying visitors may apply for temporary medical cannabis registration lasting up to 60 days. The current application fee is $49.50. Details are available through the Hawaii Medical Cannabis Registry Program.
- Oklahoma: Eligible patients with a state-government-issued medical marijuana license may apply for a 30-day out-of-state patient license. The application fee is $100 plus the applicable processing fee. The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority provides the current requirements.
- Utah: Qualifying visitors may apply for a 21-day nonresident medical cannabis card, with no more than two such cards available in a calendar year. The Utah Center for Medical Cannabis explains the eligibility rules.
Old Brooklyn patients should verify the destination state's government requirements before traveling because visitor programs, fees, and eligibility rules can change.
